CORE ROOM
]--
Most Cores Rooms tend to evolve rather
than being planned. Typical symptoms are the need for additional
ventilation and the need for easier assess to component items such as
mixers, scrubbers, binder pumps, etc. Core Room technology has improved
greatly over the last twenty years. Centralized sand mixing stations,
binder systems, and the automated delivery of mixed sand to the core
machines has not only increased the core machines efficiency, but have
also, with the aid of computer controls, greatly increased the core
quality and the machines repeatability.
SMC has
many years of experience in the design and installation Cold Box core
making systems from vendors such as Laempe, Gaylord, Redford-Carver and
CMI.

SAND SYSTEM
]--
The sand system should be considered the
heart of the foundry operation. A properly design bulk storage and
delivery system is essential to producing a high quality casting.
Quality control measures such as sand classification, temperature, size,
ph level, etc. are often over looked or given only cursory attention.
To
address these issues, the Stuart McElrath Company can design,
manufacture and install such sand system components as pneumatic
transporters, cooler/classifiers, anti-segregation devices, sand hoppers
and silos, sand heaters and combination heater/coolers. Additionally,
SMC specializes in the design and installation of both Attrition and
Thermal sand reclamation systems.

CLEANING ROOM
]--
The Stuart McElrath
Company has worked on many phases of the cleaning room process including
casting shakeout, shot blasts, weld & grind booths, heat treating and
casting inspection. SMC has put the majority of its design capabilities
into automation of casting handling to reduce worker fatigue and
injuries. Another strong area of emphasis for SMC is in the workers
environment which includes air quality, sound levels and temperature
control.

MOLDING
METHODS
]--
The Stuart McElrath
Company specializes in the design and installation of Nobake and Lost
Foam molding systems. SMC has designed and installed many Nobake molding
loops, from simple non-powered ovals, to automatic indexing turntables.
In
the Lost Foam process, SMC has worked with such companies as the General
Motors Corporation (Saginaw Grey Iron), Ford Motor Company
(Windsor and Cleveland) and the Saturn Corporation (Springhill)
on both prototype and production Lost Foam casting lines.
