The Stuart McElrath Company, in conjunction with CB&I Howe-Baker Engineers, Ltd., design three very large duct fabrications for Valero Energy Corporation’s Bill Greehey Refinery located in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The three ducts, measuring up to 35’ across and 20’ tall, were designed on SMC’s CAD system as 3D models. With one duct having compound angles and the need to fabricate it in two sections for transport, the 3D CAD models were a necessity in the design and fabrication.

The 3D models were expressly usefully in conveying, to both the customer and the fabricators, the intricacies of the design so they could fully view otherwise hidden or obscured design features.
